Oh What a Night! ( Finale)

Dear Readers,
In honor of the one year anniversary if our "unscheduled overnight on the PCT" I will be re posting the story one segment each day for the next week. If you read about our adventure last year...please feel free to skip it. If you have NOT heard our story before...you might want to take notes...cause we never thought it could happen to us either ;)

The adventure of a lifetime is over for "The 3 Amigos" ! We have seen each other at our worst and best. It is the best that I want to focus on now.
It has been 2 weeks since our "unscheduled overnight mountain stay" and I have finally stopped getting teary when I think about almost, possibly, could have, knock on wood, killed my horse and favorite cousin! ( not in order of importance) The Bossman is too ornery to die on one of out rides!!!

In no order at all...

I want to honor Bronco Betsy or Baby Doll as she is now known in some circles! ( Better than "She who rides many ponies!) This PONY COUSIN has been joining me in the desert now for the last several years as a temporary "snowbird". She started out riding stable rentals...and was so excited her 2nd season when Spanky upgraded her to ride Banjo! Banjo is Tennessee Walker who is not a beginner horse...Bronco got to ride him again this year after Jesse had his owe toes!Bronco and Banjo on our last ride together...notice the Pendleton Saddle pad and halter and lead, This is not "stable" issue!!! Has Baby Doll become the Bossman's favorite PONY COUSIN???

To Baby Doll...I know we scared the "chalupa" out of you more than once on our adventure! What I want you to know... is this: You just experienced one of the most frightening experiences that will EVER happen to you!!! And you did it, YOU cowgirled up when you needed to and did what you had to do! Unless someone rides exactly what you did, they will never know what the terrain we had to ride was. The Bossman and I know...and are proud to award to you...Baby Doll
The Desert Rose, Red Badge of Courage Award! You have earned this award for going above and beyond the call of "cowgirl duty"!

To The Bossman! Always ready to stand up and fight for a PONY COUSIN, especially the Desert Rose in time of need! For ALWAYS being a gentleman and never asking for a "blow job" no matter howfuckingcold you were!!!
To Jesse... I could not have said it better than Cowgirljlynn at A Cowgirlsgrace who dedicated Jesse this special award to Jesse!
And finally last but not least...I dedicate this award to Baby Doll and The Bossman! Alas, this PONY COUSIN has stolen the Bossman's heart away from The Desert Rose during our "unscheduled overnight mountain stay" Although I was somewhat involved in getting him his 1st "blow job" on a trail ride...I was not DIRECTLY the one who gave it to him. As Baby Doll stated in her blog...she is pretty sure she is now The Bossman's favorite PONY COUSIN!!!

I also want to thank...Slick the "Drunken Stallion" and "Little Lady" ( Pretty Girl)(soon to be "My Girl"...yes stolen from "PONY GIRL") who amazed me at their dedication and perseverance in getting us all home safely!!!
You Desert Rose!

  1. You brought tears to my eyes. For the Bossman, yes, he is a true gentleman and a true cowboy! I am really looking forward to the day when I can ride with him again! For BabyDoll, way to cowgirl up, you have really shown us all your dedication to become a cowgirl, to Jessie, Slick and Lil Lady, way to go our friends to bring our loved ones home and to my sissy the Desert Rose, what can I say but I love you so much and thank you for giving all of us the joy of experiencing this wonderful journey with equines. You are truly a cowgirl in all of our eyes. Many Happy Trails to you our dear ANGEL!

  3. Wow, I'm speechless..."sniff" Thank you cousin!! And I know this sounds like a grammy speech, but I truly couldn't have done any of it without you. Your courage HAS been inspirational to us all...As cowgirljlynn says "Man, She's got balls enough for all of us!" Even though we didn't wish for any of this "adventure" to happen, now that it's over, I can say I am glad for the chance to get to know Bossman "so well." And to have been able to find out just what I WAS made of...I do still ache for Jesse and will always be greatful for what he did for me. But, most of all Desert Rose, Thank YOU for taking such great care of ME, and this just shows how important your cousins are to you. You truly did worry about me, and I always knew you AND the Bossman were looking out for me which is probably why I never really melted down....too bad. :-) I am honored to recieve this award! I will Cherish it on my blog and wave it proudly!!! But, I will really enjoy and cherish this one of the Bossman and I too! Bossman? I share this proudly with you! Thank you for everything my friend...

  4. Aww, I have goosebumps. You three (or six I should say) truly survived a very harrowing ordeal, and came out of it (alive for one) closer and stronger (and smarter?) than anyone else could imagine. Beautifully put, DR!

  6. Love the awards and tributes....they are all deserving! That was an ordeal and it's okay to laugh about it now, but, at the time, I'm sure it was a bit scary. I am so proud of you ladies and glad that when we ride in the summer, I have your experience on the trails!
I think "My Girl" is so cute for the little lady....I'm sure My Boy would have a huge crush one her if they ever got to spend time together!
p.s. could you make the comment font color lighter or darker? I have the hardest time reading everyone's comments (I'm sure it's just me and I need to get my eyes checked, LOL!) and I love reading what everyone says! :)

  7. Just incredible!! It is amazing the ripple effect one incident has -- losing the trail led to the crisis with the horse and tested all of you in terms of riding and coping....I just can't believe this story. Thank Heavens you are all safe, and came thru it uninjured. I hope your Jesse recovers soon....I would hope if I were in a similar situation tha tI could handle it half as well.....God Bless all of you...(people and animals!)

  8. I'd say these awards were well deserved! We're so glad you and the ponies all made it home safely and that Jesse's health wasn't permanantly compromised. Love you!

  9. *sniff-sniff* That was a beautiful, heartfelt dedication, Desert Rose. You don't strike me as being so sentimental, but you do have a sweet soft side. I like that. :)

I'm glad you all survived to tell the tale. You guys are amazing. I hope you gave extra carrots too all the ponies. They are the true heroes.
