LUCY LU!

No longer do we have an empty nest... 3 yr. old Lucy Lu has captured our hearts amazingly quick! Adopted from our desert area animal shelter less than 2 weeks ago...Lucy has settled into the household routine including our crazy sleep issues like a trooper.
Look at the gorgeous gold of her feet and belly.
The perfect stripes on her body and head! I think she may have a touch of exotic blood line going on... her nose is almost cougar like.
She tries to herd us to the bed...but wants us BOTH to be there! She has begun to sleep in my arms some of the night now...she has the softest coat I have ever felt and purrs as I stroke her. Miss Lucy Lu is a real sweetheart and we are so lucky to have found her!

He Started with 9 Lives!

I had a very traumatic experience today! Little Oliver, the cat who will turn 19 years old this month had an accident! My loving husband had just left the house...maybe 15 minutes or so when I decided to go out by the pool and have a cigarette. YES...The Desert Rose smokes! (only get to have one or 2 a day....but will indulge if my Loving husband is away!) As I walked out the door towards my favorite smoking chaise lounge...I saw something out of the corner of my eye in the pool. My first thought was...Henry the Duck that frequents our pool. Upon 2nd look I realized it was a cat. I have had to grab stray cats from the pool before...and throw them out quickly before they kill me. Only this cat...was MINE!!! My Little Oliver was in the pool swimming at the far end near the hot tub close to the water fall. I yelled "Oliver" and ran to the end of the pool and reached out and grabbed him just as he was going threw the waterfall. I threw off my robe and wrapped him up. He was breathing very hard and shivering. I ran into the house with him and got a pool towel to dry him off. He was literally a drowned cat! I kept drying him and got out the blow dryer which he tolerated very well. He was still wet but not soaking wet, when I called "The Doc" to discuss whether I should bring him in. Since his breathing was back to normal now Doc said just to keep him as warm as I could and get him dry and watch him...if a change for the worse he could meet us. The Doc said Oliver had had enough stress for one day! I put Oliver's down blanket in the dryer and wrapped him up and got into my bed with the covers over us. He was still shivering on and off. I did this for the next 2 hours until he was almost dry. Then I let him down to see how he was. He seemed fine and was starved!
Little Oliver can hardly walk anymore...he is quite wobbly and eats his food and water lying down. He is however very happy and doing well despite all his medical issues. What I can't figure out is how he got to the end of the pool swimming!!! He must have fell in near the other end trying to drink from the pool! My Homeopath/Animal Communicator Vet says Oliver has really strong energy/ life flow. I also do not know how long he had been in the pool. Maybe he was on his second lap around???
Since the Passing of my brother-in law I have seemed to have negative energy/karma around me. At the NFR I was constantly having trouble and thought my sisters would distance themselves from me. I lost my voice, my drivers license, my flight home got cancelled not to mention 100 other little annoying things. However...I now feel that my energy/karma flow has changed. The timing of me being able to save Little Oliver was probably a 2 to 3 minute time span because of his condition...and now Oliver still has 3 of his nine lives left!!!
I could not sleep last night...my mind kept wandering to the loss of other beloved animals during my life...so I was up very late. I know you all have experienced the loss of your beloved animals and so you know how bad my night was...but this morning when I got up Little Oliver was dry and warm and very happy to see...his breakfast!

OLIVER LOVES SUZY Q!!!

Most of us have at one time or another had a secret crush on someone or fantasized about someone from afar. The worst is of course is when the object of your affection does not respond to your advances of courtship and love. It can break your heart. In our household Oliver is "the prince". He is 18 1/2 years old and has a brain tumor that has been radiated. Other than arthritis he really is doing well.

When he lost his companion of 15 years, 2 years ago, we agreed to take one of the Rosebud's cats and see how she and Oliver got along. We knew that there would be some adjustment time for both of them...for Oliver it was love at 1st sight. Suzy Q on the other hand not only hissed and slapped at him, she would attack him!!! And for no reason! Because of Oliver's health issues we decided that Suzy Q could not live with us anymore. However I checked in with his animal communicator to see how he felt. She had helped him through the loss of his companion and in making his decision to have the radiation treatment. I was pretty sure Oliver would say that she should go and maybe we could look for another companion. But... Oliver told the communicator that it did not matter to him that Suzy Q was mean to him or that she attacked him. He was content to worship her from afar! Unrequited love...and Oliver would rather have that with Suzy Q than not have her at all!

Here are some pictures of Oliver sneaking close to Suzy Q...and she allowed it!!!

Suzy Q must have grown fonder of Oliver over the years...however she will still slap at him and every now and then...attack him!!!

Catnip!!!

So... one day while I was at target I saw these very cute little cat nip toys! Now in the past I have bought many toys for our cats, Oliver and Suzy Q but nothing has ever striked their fancy as this!!! In fact, I had not even unloaded the bags from target before Suzy Q ripped into them!

I was unloading personal grooming items from a bag... when WHAM...Suzie Q attacked the bag on the floor!

It happened so fast...that I really did not understand what was up with her!!!

Then...I guessed why she was a maniac~ Mom had bought a couple of CATNIP toys and they were still in the bags... she just could not wait for me to unload "her bags of toys"!

Suzy rips open her present!!!

It's hard to see, but she has a bee and a chipmunk!

The bee is in her paws and he proves to bee her favorite even now!
Oliver does not seem to be impressed with either toy...it is beneath his dignity!

Suzy Q has performance anxiety!!!

Oliver decides the Bee is quite a nice guy after all...Mom!

Mom also bought us these stupid sunhats!

Pleases take these hats off us!!!!

Lily LOVES Oliver!

This last weekend our East Coast grand daughters were visiting us in the desert for 4 days. Lily our 6yr old fell in love with Oliver and he was gentleman enough to let her drag him around even though he is 18 years old. He makes her look small!!!

Every night at bed time...I would read them a story and Oliver would lay in bed with her. She also loved Suzy Q....but Suzy was too fast for Lily and she ran and hid!

Also from now on Lily has chosen to be know as "The Rose Kid"! In any future posts she will be called, The Rose Kid!

Am I a lucky Zsa Zsa or what??? My life is blessed with wonderful grand children.

Two Little Kitten's

Now that The Desert Rose is blogging she spends more time on the computer and in her chair in the "family" office. This office is a fairly new addtion to our desert home and still in the "decorating" process. This has not been an easy task because the "office" really is my loving husband's...but I have "moved" in on him in one corner. However the room was built for his use and he has 51% vote on what stays and doesn't. We have so far agreed on his desk, chair, TV stand, lamps, clock, book case, loveseat sofa bed, my recliner and the GRAND BABY PHOTO bullitin board ( he used to print them off on copy paper and tape them above his desk that was in our bedroom!) One of the newest additions to the room is THE KITTEN BED! Our kittens are 18 and 13 years old now but everything in our house usually revolves around them. Their bed times, their medicine, their "menu" anything and everything that they need. And they love to be with us...so here are some pictures of them sitting in the bed next to mom while she "BLOGS" each night!
Oliver just celebrated his 18th birthday January 15th! He has been radiated for his thyroid, has a heart problem and had radiation for a brain tumor 2 years ago. Oliver loves his mom and he is her little boy! Every day that Oliver is here with us...is a gift~

Suzy Q is a "Daddy's Girl"! She loves to be on our bed next to dad...always seems to want him to take a NAP with her! She does like me too, but I am the one that pokes a thyroid pill down her every night so anytime after 8pm she won't come near me. We have to trick her to go to bed each night. She sreams and hollers the whole way into the "cat bedroom"!

I love having a kitten curled up next to me either on the bed with me or in the bed on the floor next to me! Who curls up with you???
