Slick The UnGelding!

Just recently I had to explain to a Pony Cousin the difference between and a Stallion and a gelding, the conversation went something like this!

The Desert Rose: That there is Slick...he is a Stallion!

Pony Cousin: How can you tell???

The Desert Rose: Look at his neck...she how thick it is???

Pony Cousin: Yes... but don't other horses have thick necks???

The Desert rose: Yes...but not like his!

Pony Cousin: So boy horses are Stallions???

The Desert Rose: Well all boys start out as Stallions but by the time they are 6 months old ( or older) they are gelded ( brief explanation here) and then they are no longer a Stallion.

Pony Cousin: So....any kind of horse can be a Stallion or a gelding???

I do offer to lift Slick's blanket so she could see the "other way" to tell the difference...but by then I think she understood what the difference was!

The Desert Rose does seem to bring out the raw wild animal instinct in Slick...he usually likes to go for my leg with these teeth...it's his idea of "foreplay"! Today he was interested in my neck!

The Desert Rose!
PS As we were leaving the stables...Slick himself decided to give the cousin a peek at his @#$#$!
YES... SHE LOOKED FRIGHTENED!

  1. Hey AJ you should do a post on Slick and show some more photos...he really is a gorgeous horse and isn't he mostly Tenn. Walker? Such beautiful coloring, too!!
P.S. Who WAS that pony cousin, anyway!? ;)

  2. Slick is full Tenn. Walker, and little Lady's dad. She is 3/4 or more Walker and Morgan. Both Slick and Little Lady are gated!

  7. Yellow is a big fan of giving the ladies (or anyone who's around, actually) an eyeful. One time when the 4 year old girl I was giving lessons to was reaching under his belly to grab his back cinch, he had dropped. I said, "Reach under there and grab that thing hanging down," meaning the back cinch, and she looked at me with her big blue eyes and said, "I don't want to." Poor thing was terrified!
